about

my cat "aberdeen slim" was born right here in my home and lived here for his entire life . . . he was almost six when on january 20, 2024, his body died. slim was inbred and was born with a severe heart murmur and cognitive weaknesses and yet slowly but surely he learned so much and became a powerfully important part of my life . . . . i loved him dearly and he loved me.
he woke one morning in late january with a paw that looked to be broken. so i took him to the vet and the vet told me he that his paw was fine but that he had a massive clot in his heart that was affecting blood flow and oxygen flow to his body and that he needed to let go of his connection to this world . . . . this was one of the more devastating moments i have experienced in my life.
the first three tracks of this e.p. were created very shortly after his body died. they were sonically utterly raw and my dear friend erik emil eskildsen was tasked with saving the music that was in that rawness. i feel deep gratitude to him for embracing that challenge.
the fourth track was created after i felt slim's spirit had left my home . . . i felt it leave palpably at 11:03 a.m. on january 22. 2024.
the title comes from his unusual for cats ability to hold my eyes. not always, but especially when i cradled his body in my arms as he flew away.

"he held my eyes" was created using Arturia Minifreak and Microfreak synthesizers.
i ran many of the signals from these two synths through Red Panda Tensor and Particle pedals, pre-recorded loops on an Electro-Harmonix 74000, a TC Infinite pedal, a Zoom multiplex pedal, field recordings, found sounds (including kitchen utensils, a bear bell, pots, pans, an oven rack, a wok lid, a koshi wind chime) and all of this was at some time or another, live-room recorded onto a Zoom H4N.
