this is the second in the "small paintings" series following the release earlier this year of "he held my eyes".
with "memory smears", i wanted to create large smeary aural landscapes something like the paintings of j.m.w. turner. where possible i also brought in field recordings - crows, rain, freezing rain, found sound, and then also layers of synth detail.
the music really came together after i shipped it to my dear friend erik emil eskildsen who somehow hears what i want to say with my music and then, using his intuition and software, takes it there.

"memory smears" was created using Arturia Minifreak and Microfreak synthesizers.
i ran many of the signals from these two synths through Red Panda Tensor and Particle pedals, a TC Infinite pedal, a Zoom multiplex pedal. I recorded field recordings (over one hundred crows!), freezing rain hitting various containers, found sounds (including empty beer bottles, a wine bottle, kitchen utensils, a bear bell, pots, pans, an oven rack, a wok lid, a koshi wind chime, tuned wine glasses) and all of this was at some time or another, live-room recorded onto a Zoom H4N.
