"spirit" is comprised of music that was created two days before my mum died, and then in the period beginning three weeks after she died. in the time between those two points, i simply wasn't able to make music.

when you listen to this music, it's very likely that you'll hear it free of the very visceral feelings and associations that i experience when i listen to it.
that's perfectly alright and entirely understandable.

i hope that you experience "spirit"and perhaps even enjoy it simply for what it is.

some of you will notice that i have monetized this release. any funds raised will be directed to the Youth Emergency Shelter here in my hometown of Peterborough.

"spirit" is being released on October 19, 2023 because that would have been the day when ruth would have been celebrating her 92nd birthday.

"spirit" was created using Arturia Minifreak and Microfreak synthesizers. my mum spearheaded the matter of my very little family contributing to the purchase of the minifreak synth.
i ran many of the signals from these two synths through Red Panda Tensor and Particle pedals, pre-recorded loops on an Electro-Harmonix 74000, a TC Infinite pedal, a Zoom multiplex pedal, field recordings, found sounds (including kitchen utensils, a bear bell, pots, pans, an oven rack, a wok lid, a koshi wind chime) and all of this was at some time or another, live-room recorded onto a Zoom H4N.
